The Chiefs Children's Fund and Charity Game

crprogThe Chiefs Children’s Fund was established in 1983 and provides vital support to more than 60 local youth agencies annually. One of the more successful outreaches of the Chiefs Children’s Fund takes place via the Chiefs Charity Game, which will celebrate a quarter century of existence this year. The largest of its kind in the NFL, this game recently set a record by surpassing the $750,000 plateau in funds raised for a single game.

Annually, the game now raises in excess of $500,000 for local charities. Earlier, the Chiefs joined with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation to jointly administer an application process. Qualified agencies interested in becoming the recipient of the Game first submitted a preliminary letter of interest prior to an official application. It has since been announced that this year’s charity game recipient will be the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI).

“We are very proud that since its inception in 1984, the Chiefs Children’s Charity Game has raised more than $6 million for worthy causes in the Kansas City community,” Chiefs Chairman Clark Hunt said. “As an organization, the Chiefs consider it our responsibility and our privilege to serve the communities of our fans – particularly those in Jackson County. By partnering with CCVI, we plan to build upon the Chiefs legacy of service to strengthen our community here in Jackson County.”

CCVI is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency located on the Children’s Center Campus at 3101 Main Street in midtown Kansas City, Missouri. The Center’s mission is to prepare children who are blind or visually impaired, including those with multiple disabilities, to function at their highest potential in the sighted world. CCVI provides a comprehensive program for children, birth through school age, that includes highly specialized instruction, therapies and family education. Currently, CCVI has an approximate enrollment of 200 children while servicing 350 unique individuals a year.

Throughout the years, Chiefs and the Chiefs Children’s Fund have partnered with generous individuals and businesses in Kansas City to make life better for children in our community. In the past, local agencies such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, Don Bosco, Niles Home, Ozanam and St. Vincent’s Operation Breakthrough have all received much-needed funding as a result of the Chiefs Children’s Charity Game.
