Kansas City Signs Smith to 53-Man Roster, Favorite to Practice Squad
Oct 21, 2009, 9:46:39 AMThe Kansas City Chiefs announced on Wednesday that the club has signed free agent DT Kenny Smith to the 53-man roster. The club also added DT Marlon Favorite to the practice squad.
Smith (6-4, 303) played in 30 games (10 starts) with New Orleans (2001-04), recording 69 tackles (56 solo), 4.5 sacks (-27.0 yards), two passes defensed and two fumble recoveries. He attended training camp with New England in 2007-08 and spent the 2005 season on injured reserve with Oakland. Smith originally entered the NFL third-round pick (81st overall) of New Orleans in the 2001 NFL Draft.
Smith was a four-year starter and two-time All-SEC selection at Alabama, registering 177 tackles (103 solo), 10.5 sacks and three blocked kicks. He was named the Mississippi Defensive Player of the Year and was a Parade All-America pick as a senior at Meridian High School in Meridian, Mississippi.
Favorite (6-1, 317) entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Carolina in 2009 and attended training camp with the Panthers. He played in 30 games (17 starts) at LSU, producing 78 tackles and 4.0 sacks.
