On the weather: “The elements are the elements. You have to be able to handle them as a player. We practiced in the rain this week. The one interception got away from me on the throw. But other than that, like I said, we had practiced in the elements this week and it wasn’t something that was overwhelming, that we hadn’t practiced for.”
It looked like Friday’s practice was the best you’ve had all year: “I would agree. We had a great week of practice and this was definitely not what we came out anticipating would happen, but it did. Other than that, we have to move on.”
Did you see any signs this week that maybe this was coming? “No. Our hats come off to the San Diego Chargers. They jumped out 20-0 and it’s all three phases: it’s offense, it’s defense, it’s special teams. . .we all take responsibility. We had to [fight] from behind and we did a good job coming out in the second half and getting on the board, but then from there we just had to come up for the battle.”
On losing a game like this, in this fashion, at home: “It’s always difficult. You never want to lose at home and you never want to lose in this fashion. So we have to go back and re-group. We have the bye week now. . .It’s going to be hard film to watch tomorrow but we’re going to have to watch it and make our corrections and get better.”
Do you feel like you gave back whatever you gained last week in Washington? “A win’s a win and this is a new week. This is a new week and every week is a new week in the NFL. This is definitely not how we wanted to come out and play. We’re going to have to deal with that as a team and we’re going to have to correct a lot of things.”
Do you feel comfortable in the hurry-up offense used in the second half? “That’s what I think Coach (Haley) wanted to come out and do to try to establish something; we got some rhythm going there in the second half early and then we kind of piddled out a little bit. It’s something I’m comfortable with, I’m sure the team’s comfortable with; we practice that weekly and we just weren’t able to make it go enough.”
How difficult is it going into the bye week with this loss? “It’s difficult. You’d love to be going into the bye week with smiles but, unfortunately, we’re not and that’s part of being a professional. It’s going in and figuring out what we’re doing wrong and make those corrections.”
What’s the number one thing you are going to work on during the bye week? “I’m not really sure, to be completely honest. We’re going to have to watch film, Coach is probably going to pinpoint a few things which we really need to focus on and then we’re going to have to get after it.”
