Hunt was the driving force behind the formation of the American Football League, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2009. He was the inaugural figure from the AFL to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in ‘72.
Takeaway Stats: The Chiefs tied a season-high with three takeaways. Kansas City previously did it vs. Pittsburgh (11/22) and vs. Denver (12/6). LB Mike Vrabel registered a sack and strip in the first quarter. He now has 2.0 sacks on the season and 57.0 for his career. It was his second forced fumble of the season and the 18th of his career. DT Ron Edwards recovered his second fumble of the season and third of his career. CB Brandon Carr registered his first career forced fumble, recording his first fumble recovery of the year and the third of his career. CB Brandon Flowers established a career high with his third INT of the season, giving him five for his career.
Charles in Charge: RB Jamaal Charles produced his third career 100-yard rushing game, registering a career-high 143 rushing yards. It was the highest rushing tally by a Chiefs player since RB Larry Johnson had 198 yards vs. Denver (9/28/08). Charles also registered a career-long 76-yard TD run. It was seventh-longest run in franchise history and Kansas City’s longest run since WR Derrick Alexander had an 82-yard TD run vs. Pittsburgh (12/12/99).
More Notes on Charles: RB Jamaal Charles has scored a TD in five consecutive games, the longest streak by a member of the Chiefs since RB Larry Johnson scored a TD in nine consecutive games in 2006. Charles set single-game career highs in receptions (seven), attempts from scrimmage (27) and yards from scrimmage (181).
Sack Stats: LB Tamba Hali now has 7.5 sacks on the season and 26.0 for his career. He has 4.0 sacks in the last two games.
Defensive Stats: The Chiefs allowed 16 points, marking the fourth time this season that the club has permitted 17 points or less. Kansas City permitted 73 net passing yards, the club’s best mark since allowing 55 net passing yards vs. Oakland (9/14/08).
Third-Down Stats: The Chiefs converted a season-high seven third downs, the club’s best total since converting eight at Oakland (11/30/08).
Playing/Starting Notes: WR Bobby Wade played in his 100th NFL game. CB Travis Daniels made his first start as a member of the Chiefs when the club opened in the nickel defense.
Cottam’s Catch: TE Brad Cottam had a career-long 26-yard reception.
Long’s Day: WR Lance Long set career highs with five kickoff returns for 87 yards.
