Chiefs Wives Join with The Salvation Army to Continue a Red and Gold December of Caring
Dec 21, 2009, 3:41:52 PMThis time of year is undoubtedly about giving back and
helping others. That’s why current and former Kansas City Chiefs wives recently joined forces with the Salvation Army
to help local families in need. Thanks to these ladies, $10,000 was donated to the Salvation Army thereby assuring 10
deserving local families of obtaining a special holiday gift bonanza. Each of these families will now awake Christmas
morning with plenty under the tree thanks to the efforts put forth by these Chiefs wives.
The ladies began their day by ringing the Salvation Army Bells outside a storefront in the cold Missouri weather. Then, the wives proceeded inside where they helped shop for the 10 families. After they concluded their best St. Nick impressions and picked out gifts, the ladies wrapped and loaded these holiday surprises for delivery.
“We just love participating in community service events where local families directly benefit from our involvement,” noted Erin Brown, wife of S Mike Brown. “Our involvement in these type of gatherings are truly the greatest gifts we can give at any time of year.”
The Chiefs are no strangers to helping out Midwesterners in need. Examples of this giving spirit has been on display this entire month. Earlier, the Chiefs linebacking corps joined the Variety Children’s Charity in hosting a holiday event for 400 local children with special needs. Later that same day, nearly 30 members of the team assisted children of the Love Fund in selecting special holiday gifts they otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity to purchase. Then, the Chiefs adopted over 30 single-parents and their children from Operation Breakthrough this holiday season. And, in what’s become an annual tradition, the Marines “Toys for Tots” drive was also held at Arrowhead Stadium for an NFL-record 44th year. Each and every time, the Red and Gold flashed that trademark smile and compassionate nature.
As the organization concludes its 50th Anniversary, its benevolent spirit continues to shine all year long. Ever since they relocated to Kansas City in 1963, the Chiefs have made a mark throughout the region. Still, the holidays are a time of great need for many in the metro and that’s why the organization continues to offer up an outstretched hand.
The entire Kansas City Chiefs Family wishes you and yours a Happy Holiday and a prosperous New Year!
